Delta 8 has gained a significant amount of attention in the cannabis community very quickly and has taken over the spotlight. As a result, there is a lot we still don’t know about it. That being said, the more attention it gains the more is invested into Delta 8 research and testing. In turn, we continue to learn about this amazing cannabinoid and all of its amazing benefits.
Here are some interesting facts you may not know about Delta 8 THC that have already been uncovered.
Delta 8 is Commonly Derived from CBD
Delta 8 can be converted from CBD through a process called isomerization. This is a necessary process because although Delta 8 exists naturally in both cannabis and hemp plants, it’s in such small concentrations that it would be challenging, and expensive, to extract. So, instead, it is carefully converted from CBD in a stable, sterile, and highly technical lab to ensure it is free of contaminants.
This also means that not all Delta 8 products are pure D8. So, it’s important to pay attention to the quality of products you’re purchasing and ensure that these products have undergone the appropriate processing and testing. Otherwise, there could be impurities as well as a higher amount of Delta 9 THC than you had hoped for. Learn more about how to tell if your D8 is high-quality by reading through more of the articles on our blog.
Pure Delta 8 is Clear
Delta 8 that has been extracted effectively is clear, it looks like water but feels like THC. It’s clear as a result of all contaminants being removed as well as the fact that chromophores that typically make other THC products have an amber tint. Not all D8 products are going to be pure as a result of the fact that extraction is an intricate and expensive process that requires a sterile lab.
Laughing Buddha is committed to creating pure D8 products. We are transparent about the processes used and product test results. Laughing Buddha’s products test at up to 96% pure D8. Check out the lab reports section of our website for all the information you’re looking for on the quality of our products.
It’s important to note that if a D8 product is not clear that does not necessarily mean it isn’t pure. Some companies may choose to add other cannabinoids or terpenes into their products after extraction. Terpenes are naturally occurring compounds in numerous plants, not just cannabis and hemp. They are responsible for the aroma we have come to associate with cannabis but they can also add to the benefits of Delta 8 through the Entourage Effect.
There is no Delta 8 Flower
There is no such thing as a strain of cannabis or hemp that is high in Delta 8, which means there is no Delta 8 flower. While Delta 8 is naturally occurring in both marijuana and hemp, it’s in incredibly small concentrations and cultivators are unable to grow a flower that is high in D8. That being said, some companies are attempting to infuse or spray plants to create a more Delta 8 experience with hemp flower.
Delta 8 Acts Similarly to Both CBD and Delta 9 THC
Part of the appeal of Delta 8 THC is that it acts similarly to both CBD and Delta 9 THC, the THC we are already familiar with. This means that while the user does experience a psychoactive high, it’s often not as strong as typically experienced with Delta 9 THC. Some say that Delta 8 is approximately half as intense, which is why some are calling it ‘THC Lite’. The user is also less likely to experience the anxiety and paranoia that sometimes accompanies Delta 9 THC, while also feeling more focused and alert. At the same time, they experience the therapeutic benefits associated with CBD.
This is believed to be a result of the fact that Delta 8 interacts with both CB1 and CB2 receptors. So, users not only experience a nice head experience but the body benefits as well. Some users of Delta 8 reported relief from pain and inflammation, reduction in nausea, improvement in sleep as well as a number of other benefits associated with CBD.[1]
Delta 8 THC Can Cause You to Fail a Drug Test
The reason that Delta 8 and Delta 9 THC have these names is because of their molecular structure. These two cannabinoids are very similar, with the only difference being where the double-bond is located within the chemical structure. Delta 9 has a double bond on the 9th carbon chain, whereas Delta 8 has the same double bond on the 8th carbon chain. As a result, it appears as though Delta 8, in most cases, is likely to trigger a positive drug test for THC. So, if you are subject to drug testing, unfortunately, it may make sense to avoid using D8.
Try Delta 8 for Yourself
Delta 8 is continuing to gain the attention of hemp and cannabis users across the United States and for good reason. For some, Delta 8 is a much more approachable way of obtaining the benefits associated with THC as it allows them to remain more clear-headed and focused. It’s also helpful that it isn’t illegal and is, therefore, becoming more accessible across the US. As a result, for many, it’s a practical alternative to cannabis.
