Frozen fingers and bitterly cold gusts in your face is bad enough, but when your vape starts acting up on top of that? That’s a whole new level of winter brutality! All you wanted was a quick puff, but all you are getting is weak clouds or vape juice that suddenly tastes off. Or maybe your battery seems to have the lifespan of a snowflake. Most people don’t realize how much of a beating their vape gear takes when the temperature drops.
But don’t worry, we have your back. Continue reading to learn our best tips to keep your vape carts and other devices running like a dream, no matter how cold it gets outside.

Keep Your Mod Close to Your Body
Instead of tossing your e-cig in your backpack or letting it sit in your car, keep it close to you. An inner jacket pocket works best because your body heat prevents the internal components from freezing up. This is especially important for maintaining the health of battery and preventing it from going all sluggish on you. If you’re going to be outdoors for extended periods, regularly check your setup to make sure it hasn’t become too cold. Even a few degrees of warmth can make all the difference.
Charge Your Power Source at Room Temperature
Lithium-ion batteries don’t handle freezing environments well. If you try charging one that is already cold, it might not charge fully, or it could sustain permanent damage. Before plugging in, allow the battery to warm up naturally to room temperature. Never force heat (or direct sunlight) onto it. If you are planning to be outside for long stretches, start with a fully charged power source. Weak batteries deplete even faster in the cold.
Choose a Juice with Higher PG
E-liquids with high vegetable glycerin content thicken up when temperatures drop, and that’s how you end up with clogging or dry hits. Propylene glycol, on the other hand, stays thinner even in the glacial cold. Consider switching to a higher PG ratio in your blend — something like 60/40. If you prefer thick clouds, compromise with a balanced blend. Also, give your tank a quick shake now and then to keep the liquid flowing evenly.
Warm Your E-Liquid Before Using It
If you cannot figure out why you keep getting dry draws, you can blame the cold vape juice that never wicks properly. Before filling your tank, hold the bottle in your hands for a few minutes. Alternatively, keep it in a pocket or place it near a mild heat source, like a radiator. Do not microwave it or place it directly onto a heater; that will destroy the flavor or consistency (or both). Once it is slightly warmed, the liquid will be smooth enough to offer you satisfying hits.
Prime Your Coils Longer Than Usual
Thicker e-liquid during colder months means it takes longer to saturate your wicks. So, when you are priming a new coil, add a few extra drops of liquid directly onto the cotton and let it sit for at least five minutes. Take a few unpowered draws for rapid absorption of the vape liquid. If you rush this step, you will likely end up with burnt cotton, which not only ruins the flavor but also wastes a brand-new coil. Be patient.
Carry an Extra Battery Safely
Cold weather drains battery life at an alarming rate. Always have a fully charged backup on hand. Store it in a protective case to avoid accidental short-circuiting. Keeping the spare in a warm pocket ensures it’s ready to use whenever you need it. You should also rotate your batteries every so often to prevent either one from becoming overexposed to the cold.
Switch to Resin or Plastic Mouthpieces
Metal drip tips are a bad idea in frostbite months. They get icy to the touch and can make vaping downright painful. Look out for plastic or resin alternatives instead as these materials don’t conduct the chill as much and feel better on your lips.
Use Thinner Wick Material
If you are a DIY coil builder, pay attention to the wick material you are using in colder months. Thick cotton struggles to soak up e-liquid when it’s more viscous. You may want to go for thinner, high-quality cotton that allows the juice to saturate more quickly. You will get more even draws, avoid dry hits, and make the most out of every puff.
Inspect Your O-Rings Regularly
If you notice the rubber seal on your tank (the O-ring) has become hard, brittle, or cracked, that’s because rubber loses its flexibility in colder temperatures. And when that happens, your tank could leak. If you don’t want e-liquid all over your hands, take two minutes once a week to check your O-rings. Just pop open your tank and give the seals a quick look. If they look stiff or damaged in any way, replace them. You should always have a spare set in your disposable Delta 8 vape pen kit.
Stay Hydrated
It’s easier to gulp down your 8 glasses when you are sweating buckets in hot weather. But winter makes you forget about drinking water. Unfortunately, dry air – inside and out – dehydrates you faster than you think. With a vape cartridge, your throat is bound to get a case of scratchiness. Keep a water bottle nearby at all times. Herbal teas are splendid if you’re looking for something warm. Staying hydrated keeps your throat happy and makes your experience a lot more pleasant.
